India Nears 25-Medal Milestone at Paris Paralympics, Historic Wins in Archery and Club Throw
Sports Desk, 5th September: On Day 7 of the Paris Paralympics 2024, India surged towards the 25-medal mark, fueled by remarkable performances from athletes Harvinder Singh and Dharambir on September 4.
Harvinder Singh made history as the first Indian archer to claim a Paralympic gold medal, securing victory in the Men’s Individual Recurve Open final with a dominant 6-0 win over Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek. This triumph marked India’s fourth gold of the Games.
In the Men’s Club Throw – F51 Final, Dharambir and fellow Indian Pranav Soorma celebrated a 1-2 finish, with Dharambir clinching gold and Pranav earning silver, further boosting India’s medal tally.
Earlier in the day, reigning World Champion Sachin Khilari secured a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 event at Stade de France, achieving a throw of 16.32 meters. Khilari’s performance not only earned him second place behind Canada’s Greg Stewart but also set a new Asian record in the F46 category.
India now stands 13th on the medals table with 24 medals, including five golds, nine silvers, and 10 bronzes, continuing to shine on the global stage.
