India-Nepal Border in Darjeeling To Be Closed From Nov 17-20

Guwahati: The India-Nepal border in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district is scheduled to be closed between November 17 and November 20 due to the forthcoming general elections in the neighbouring nation.

The sealing procedure has been initiated by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the central military force in charge of protecting the Nepali-Indian border. According to reports, the decision was made by the Center in response to a request from the government of Nepal.

Nepal and India currently share borders at two locations in the Darjeeling district. They are Pasupati in Mirik and Panitanki in Darjeeling.

Tourists travelling to Nepal’s Pashupatinath are particularly regular visitors to the second border crossing. The entire Indo-Nepal border region in Darjeeling is almost 100 kilometres long.

No one will be permitted to cross through either of these two border locations during this time, nor will anyone be permitted to enter the Indian side from Nepal.

However, there will be exceptions for those who need to cross the border for urgent medical reasons.

The SSB high command will deploy more personnel to the border areas in Darjeeling district during the four days.
