Guwahati: The two cricketing powers of the continent India and Pakistan, won’t be playing each other on Sunday because they were drawn into the same group for the Asia Cup 2022, which is now taking place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Asian heavyweights’ epic matchup is the first in nearly a year. The last time India and Pakistan faced off; the tenacious Pakistan team led by Babar Azam soundly defeated India in the T20 World Cup encounter.
The fact that Pakistan had defeated India by a score of 10 wickets will undoubtedly be on the minds of the men in blue coming into the game. This will also present a chance to avenge the enemy.
Incidentally, it was the first World Cup match in which a Pakistani team defeated an Indian team. India will play familiar adversaries at the same location under the leadership of Rohit Sharma a year after that match.
Shaheen Afridi, a promising and important pacer for Pakistan, was forced to withdraw from the competition owing to an injury. He is considered by experts to be one of Pakistan’s greatest weapons, which will be a big boost for India.
The Pakistan Cricket Board said that young bowler Naseem Shah has been substituted in his place and is scheduled to make his T20 debut today.
