Indian Army and TU Sign MoU For Training on ‘Chinese Language’

Guwahati: Indian Army and Tezpur University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 19 for training Indian Army personnel in the Chinese language.

The course will be offered at Tezpur University for a total of 16 weeks.

In the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. SN Singh, the MoU was signed by HQ 4 Corps on behalf of the Indian Army and the Registrar of Tezpur University.

Tezpur University was established in 1994 as a central university by a parliamentary legislation made it one of the forerunners in the North East in the teaching of foreign languages, particularly Chinese with highly educated professors.

The Indian Army stated in a news release that this Chinese language course will enhance in-house Mandarin proficiency and equip army soldiers to interact with Chinese military personnel as and when the situation calls for it.

 “With improved Chinese language skills, the army personnel will be better empowered to convey their points in a much more cogent manner. It will also help in better exchange of view points and understanding of the Chinese PLA’s version of their activities during various interactions such as Commander Level talks, Flag Meetings, Joint Exercises and Border Personnel Meetings etc,” the press statement reads.
