Indian Army, Assam Rifles Step Up Manipur Operations: Focus on Readiness and Recoveries

Guwahati, Assam: The Indian Army and Assam Rifles have significantly escalated their operations across Manipur, with a clear focus on dismantling militant infrastructure and bolstering security measures. This intensified drive is being complemented by rigorous training exercises aimed at maintaining peak operational readiness among the forces.

A key aspect of this heightened readiness involves regular firing exercises conducted at the Darranga Field Firing Range in Assam. An official statement from Assam Rifles underscored the importance of these drills, noting, “Regular firing exercises at Darranga are integral to maintaining high levels of operational readiness. These weapons play a vital role in enhancing the Force’s combat effectiveness and precision.” The emphasis on precision and combat effectiveness highlights the strategic intent behind these exercises.

Recent operations have yielded substantial recoveries, providing a clear indication of the forces’ effectiveness. On May 27, the Indian Army initiated a focused operation in the Chadong area of Imphal East district. This led to the discovery of a militant hideout and the recovery of five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), alongside two 12-bore rifles and other incriminating materials.

Further demonstrating their reach, a joint team comprising the Indian Army and Manipur Police conducted a search operation on June 1 in the Khuangmun area of Churachandpur District. This meticulous effort resulted in the seizure of seven assorted weapons, including .303 and single-barrel rifles, in addition to two IEDs.

The sustained pressure on militant networks was evident in the Kakching district, where an operation on June 2 uncovered two IEDs, each weighing approximately 8 kg, and five weapons, including an INSAS rifle. These recoveries underscore the continuous and targeted efforts to disrupt militant activities. Concurrently, in the Rashidpur Forest of Jiribam District, another joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police on June 2 led to the recovery of five weapons and a cache of grenades. Such intelligence-based operations are proving crucial in weakening militant strongholds.

The period between May 26 and June 5 witnessed a flurry of coordinated actions involving the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and various other security agencies. These joint operations resulted in the apprehension of 23 cadres and the recovery of 40 weapons, alongside nine IEDs and grenades. This coordinated strategy reflects a robust and unified approach aimed at countering militant threats and significantly fortifying the security landscape across Manipur.
