Indian Army Chief Commends Restraint in Manipur, Highlights Unity of Soldiers Amid Challenges
Northeast Desk, 11th January: Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande commended the Assam Rifles and Indian Army troops for displaying restraint amid sudden provocations or violence in Manipur. Emphasizing the coordinated deployment with the state administration, he highlighted the unity among soldiers from both Meitei and Kuki communities, living and working together without issues.
Speaking at the NCC Republic Day Parade Camp in New Delhi, General Pande noted that the situation in the northern border is “stable but sensitive.” Regarding the eastern Ladakh row, he mentioned ongoing talks at military and diplomatic levels to find a balanced resolution.
Discussing the Army’s modernization efforts, General Pande revealed plans for technology adoption in 2024, marking a significant year for the Indian Army’s overall modernization. He outlined the restructuring of artillery units and the transition from animal transport units to drones.
Providing updates on the Agnipath Yojana, he shared that the first two batches of Agniveers have been deployed in field units, with exciting and positive feedback. General Pande also highlighted the deployment of 120 women officers with permanent commissions in command roles in field areas, praising their effective contributions.
