Indian Army Chief Highlights Improved Security and Humanitarian Efforts in Northeast India
Imphal: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has stated that the security situation in the Northeast region is steadily improving, attributing the progress to coordinated efforts by security forces and proactive government initiatives. However, he acknowledged that sporadic incidents of violence, particularly in Manipur, continue to pose challenges.
Speaking on the ongoing unrest in Manipur, General Dwivedi emphasized that collaborative measures are being taken to restore peace. He praised the involvement of NGOs and Army veterans in engaging with community leaders to foster dialogue and reconciliation, aiming for long-term stability in the state.
Addressing the Indo-Myanmar border situation, the Army Chief outlined enhanced surveillance and monitoring efforts designed to prevent any destabilizing effects from the ongoing unrest in Myanmar. These measures aim to safeguard the region and reinforce border security.
On the humanitarian front, General Dwivedi highlighted the Army’s commitment to enhancing disaster response capabilities. “We have allocated ₹17 crores for upgrading our Quick Reaction Teams and Quick Response medical teams based on the experiences of 2024,” he said, underscoring the Army’s readiness to address emergencies effectively.
The Indian Army’s approach in the Northeast reflects its focus on maintaining security while extending humanitarian support, ensuring stability and development in one of India’s most challenging regions.
