Indian Army Commemorates Infantry Day and Shaurya Diwas with Ceremonies Across Northeast

Northeast: The Indian Army honored its infantry soldiers on October 27, marking Infantry Day and Shaurya Diwas with solemn ceremonies across the northeastern states.

The day commemorates the historic defence of Kashmir in 1947, celebrated as independent India’s first major military victory.

At military stations in Manipur and Nagaland, ceremonies were held at war memorials in Leimakhong and Zakhama, where serving personnel and veterans gathered to pay tribute to fallen comrades.

The General Officer Commanding of the Red Shield Division led the remembrance ceremonies, alongside officers and soldiers of various ranks, each laying wreaths as a mark of respect.

The observances included a special documentary screening, which showcased the Infantry Corps’ critical contributions to India’s defence and highlighted its historic role in key military operations.

October 27 holds special significance as it marks the day in 1947 when Indian troops, arriving at Srinagar Airfield, successfully prevented advancing Pakistani tribal forces from seizing Kashmir, a pivotal moment for the newly independent nation.

This year’s observance brought together generations of soldiers, reinforcing the legacy of service, resilience, and sacrifice that defines India’s infantry forces. The commemorations served as a powerful reminder of the commitment that continues to shape the nation’s military tradition.
