Indian Army Hosts Inaugural “Sikkim Soldierathon” in Gangtok to Foster Citizen-Army Bonds

Sikkim: In a landmark event aimed at uniting citizens with the Indian Army, the Eastern Command and Trishakti Corps organized the inaugural “Sikkim Soldierathon” on October 27.

The half marathon, themed “Run with our Soldiers,” took place at Gangtok’s Paljor Stadium in collaboration with “Fitistan: Ek Fit Bharat,” aiming to promote fitness and sports tourism in Sikkim.

The Soldierathon offered three race categories—5 km, 10 km, and 21 km—drawing more than 1,500 participants from 29 cities across 12 states.

The event underscored the spirit of patriotism and fitness, with prizes for winners and finisher medals and promotional items for all participants. Attendees also enjoyed cultural performances showcasing the vibrant heritage of Sikkim.

Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, addressed the enthusiastic crowd, emphasizing the significance of the event, stating, “Every step you take is a tribute to the valour and sacrifice of our soldiers guarding these borders. I am honored to be part of this new initiative to promote a ‘Fit India’ and strengthen the bond between the Indian Army and our citizens.”

Adding to the sentiment, Lieutenant General Zubin A Minwalla, GOC, 33 Corps, expressed, “Soldierathon is a unique event that offers a lifetime opportunity to run alongside our brave soldiers who stand vigil round the clock on the borders.”

With the scenic state of Sikkim as its backdrop, the Soldierathon symbolizes unity, resilience, and a shared commitment to fitness, further fostering the bond between the Indian Army and citizens.
