Indian Army Pays Tribute To Martyred Canine Warrior ‘Zoom’ in J&K

Guwahati: The Indian Army paid tribute to “Zoom” on Friday after it lost the battle dog to gunshot wounds earlier this week in Jammu and Kashmir.

The two-year-old Belgian Malinios named Zoom passed away on Thursday at the 54 Advance Field Veterinary Hospital (AFVH), where he was receiving care for two gunshot wounds he received on October 9 during a combat operation in Tangpawa, Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag.

Zoom, a veteran of multiple counterterrorism (CT) missions where he distinguished himself with his vigour and bravery, was also recalled by the 29 Army Dog Unit, Army officials informed.

“Army Dog Zoom was an essential squad player. Zoom, who was only two years old, had participated in numerous CT Ops and stood out for his fearlessness and vigour “the Indian Army Officials had said.

Zoom was crucial in not only pinpointing the exact location of the terrorists on October 9 during the operation in Anantnag, but also in incapacitating one of them.

The brave dog took two gunshot wounds but in the process.

Zoom found the other terrorist who was hiding despite being hurt, but while returning from the target area, he collapsed from serious blood loss.

The officials added that they had lost a “valiant team member” in Zoom, who had inspired the Army soldiers to approach their work with courage, humility, and determination.

Zoom underwent surgery after getting injured in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag.

Army dog Zoom assaulted terrorists during the military operation in Kokernag, Anantnag, and suffered critical injuries after being shot twice.

Furthermore, they said that Zoom carried out his mission in spite of his wounds, which led to the deactivation of two terrorists.
