Indian Boxers and Wrestlers Prepare for Paris Olympics with Foreign Training Camps

Guwahati, 4th April: In a bid to bolster India’s representation at the Paris Olympics, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ (MYAS) Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has greenlit proposals for Indian boxers and wrestlers to undergo specialized training abroad.

Indian boxers, including Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Praveen Hooda, and Lovlina Borgohain, have been selected to participate in a special training camp in Turkey. This initiative, approved during the 129th meeting of the MOC, aims to hone the skills of these athletes ahead of the Paris Olympics. Under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding, the boxers will receive financial assistance from MYAS to support their training endeavors. Accompanied by two coaches and a physiotherapist, the boxers will undergo rigorous training in Turkey to enhance their competitive edge on the international stage.

Additionally, the MOC has sanctioned foreign training camps for five TOPS wrestlers gearing up for the Paris Olympic Qualifiers and Asian Championships. Wrestlers Sujeet (65kg), Deepak Punia (86kg), and Naveen (74kg) will embark on training stints in Russia, accompanied by their respective sparring partners, coaches, and physiotherapists. The rigorous training regimen in Russia aims to prepare these wrestlers for the upcoming Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament scheduled for April.

These initiatives underscore India’s commitment to fostering excellence in sports and nurturing talent to compete at the highest level on the global stage. Through strategic investments and specialized training programs, Indian athletes are poised to make a mark at the Paris Olympics and beyond.
