Indian Chamber of Commerce Hosts Session on Transforming Assam’s Industrial Ecosystem

Guwahati: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Assam & Meghalaya State Council on November 6 organized a thought-provoking session in its “ICC Guest of the Month” series, themed “Transforming Assam’s Industrial Ecosystem: Advancing Ease of Doing Business, Infrastructure, and Digital Innovation for Sustainable Growth.”

The event was held at the NEDFi Conference Hall in Guwahati and drew policymakers, industry leaders, and MSME representatives to discuss Assam’s industrial future.

Sarat Kumar Jain, Chairman of the ICC Assam & Meghalaya State Council, inaugurated the event, highlighting the importance of infrastructure development, policy reforms, and technology in maximizing Assam’s industrial potential.

Emphasizing a collaborative approach, Jain pointed to these advancements as crucial for a sustainable and progressive industrial environment in Assam.

The session featured Dr. Lakshmanan S., IAS, Secretary of Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises Department, Government of Assam. Dr. Lakshmanan spoke on Assam’s ongoing industrial transformation, particularly in enhancing ease of doing business and adopting digital innovations. He discussed the department’s focus on developing infrastructure and implementing reforms aligned with Industry 4.0, alongside a push for a sustainable ecosystem within Assam’s industries.

Dr. Uday Praveen, IAS, Additional Secretary, Industries Department, further expanded on the topic by detailing digital integration efforts, including the “Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan” (CM Triple A). Dr. Praveen highlighted legislative changes and the gradual move toward a digital business environment, targeting full digitization of official documents to streamline processes for businesses and investors.

Key themes addressed in the session included the need for enhanced MSME support, sustainable resource management, policy improvements, and infrastructure growth. Industry representatives and MSME leaders participated actively, exchanging insights and voicing concerns.

The discussions underscored ICC’s role as a platform bridging policymakers and business leaders in shaping Assam’s industrial ecosystem.
