Indian Government Facilitates Online Citizenship Application Process for Persecuted Minorities
National Desk, 12th March: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has rolled out an online gateway to facilitate the application process for Indian citizenship for individuals facing persecution in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or Bangladesh.
Specifically targeting six minority communities—Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians—the initiative aims to grant citizenship based on religious beliefs.
According to the Ministry, applicants can now submit their citizenship applications online, streamlining the previously cumbersome process.
Additionally, the government plans to introduce the ‘CAA-2019’ mobile app to further enhance accessibility and efficiency in the application process.
The implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA-2019) comes four years after its controversial approval, with the Center officially putting it into effect on March 11.
The timing of this move, just days before the anticipated announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, underscores its significance in the political landscape.
