Indian Navy & DRDO Successfully Flight Test VL-SRSAM Missile

Guwahati: The Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) was successfully flight tested by the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Tuesday from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.

According to national media, the test was conducted from an Indian Naval Ship against a fast unmanned aerial target to demonstrate the capabilities of vertical launch.

The DRDO has independently developed the VL-SRSAM system. The missiles used in the test included an indigenous radio frequency (RF) seeker, which allowed them to hit the target quite precisely.

Using flight data obtained from a variety of range equipment, including radar, an electro-optical tracking system (EOTS), and telemetry systems deployed by ITR, the flight path and vehicle performance metrics were tracked.

Senior researchers from several DRDO institutes, including Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, and R&D Engineers in Pune, who were engaged in the design and development of the system were watching the launch.
