Indian Navy Joins Multi-Agency Effort to Rescue Trapped Miners in Assam
Assam: The Indian Navy has deployed a specialized rescue team to Umrangso, a remote industrial town in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, to assist in the ongoing mission to rescue miners trapped underground since January 6.
The team, consisting of one officer and eleven expert sailors, includes Clearance Divers renowned for their expertise in deep-depth diving and recovery operations. Equipped with advanced tools such as deep diving gear and underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), the Navy’s presence adds critical capabilities to the high-stakes rescue operation.
Arriving on the evening of January 7, the team was airlifted from Visakhapatnam in a coordinated effort by the Indian Air Force. Their arrival underscores the gravity of the situation, as rescue agencies intensify their efforts to locate and retrieve the trapped miners.
The mission is being conducted in close collaboration with the Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local civil authorities. This unified approach ensures seamless communication and coordination, vital for the success of such a complex and time-sensitive operation.
With multiple agencies working round the clock, the focus remains on leveraging advanced equipment and expertise to achieve a swift and effective rescue, providing hope to the families of the miners and the wider community.
