Indian Oil celebrates World Rhino Day

Guwahati: World Rhino Day is a day of awareness about all five species of rhinos. This special day provides the opportunity to celebrate rhinos and spread awareness about the importance of their conservation. ‘

Since 2011, World Rhino Day has been celebrated internationally on September 22nd – this year being the 10th anniversary. Assam has the largest density of one-horned rhino in the world. Excessive hunting and agricultural development had reduced its habitat drastically, but the numbers are increasing slowly due to conservation measures taken by the government &various other organizations. In 1905, there were only 12 rhinos in Kaziranga and it took over 115 years to reach today’s number of over 2000 rhinos.

This World Rhino Day, Indian Oil celebrates our local pride the one-horned rhino and legacy. Indian Oil recently introduced the one-horned rhino as its brand mascot – the Indian Oil Rhino. The similarities between the two are striking – Massive yet Agile, Tough yet Caring, Gentle yet Majestic.

Executive Director & State Head of Indian Oil G Ramesh said, “By choosing the one-horned Rhino as its mascot, Indian Oil has committed itself to espouse the cause of the Great Indian Rhino and create awareness about this majestic dweller of Indian forests. The World Rhino Day is the perfect opportunity to spread the awareness about saving the Rhino and its ecosystem.”

Taking the cue from this initiative, Radio Gup Shup, a local radio station that always voices, promotes, and stands with the local ethos and wears the culture on its sleeves, conceptualized a unique initiative to stand with the Rhino – which is the local pride. This World Rhino Day, Radio Gup Shup will change its brand identity to Radio Rhino in association with Indian Oil to spread the awareness message to “SAVE RHINO”.

This will essentially bind all the 3 entities together – Indian Oil and its mascot – the one-horned Rhino, which is also the local pride like Radio Gup Shup. This initiative is piloted by a very courageous innovation of disrupting the RJ’s show in between with sudden Rhino’s sound to grab the attention of the listeners leading to the celebration of the World Rhino Day on 22nd September. This is a breakthrough campaign to spread the message on the conservation of Rhino’s and their habitat.

Commenting on this Wassim Ahmed CEO Radio Gup Shup said “Radio GupShup has always been at the forefront in helping brands achieve their objectives by conceptualizing solutions as per the need of the hour. To reinforce the cause of Saving the pride of Assam, the one horned Rhino, which is also the mascot of Indian Oil, Radio GupShup is changing its stationality/identity to Radio Rhino on 22nd September.  We are absolutely thrilled to bring this initiative alive with Indian Oil and we hope that this campaign brings about a huge revolution in the campaign of conservation of Rhinos.”
