Indian-origin teenager stabbed to death during brawl at birthday party in Israel

Guwahati: A brawl broke out at a party on Thursday night in the Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona, killing an Indian teenager who had moved to Israel with his family less than a year earlier, local media reported.

Yeol Lehingahel who was 18 years old was injured in a brawl and was taken to the hospital after Yeol Lehingahel was meant to return home, which is in Nof Hagalil, following his friend’s birthday celebration.

Meir Paltiel who works with the community of Indian Jewish immigrants to Israel said, “Yoel was supposed to come home for Shabbat, but in the morning [Friday] at almost 7 am, a friend of his called [the family] and told them there had been a fight last night and that Yoel was injured and in hospital.”

Paltiel added that the family was informed of Lahingahel’s passing even before they arrived at the hospital.

Lehingahel was a Jew from a remote area of northeastern India who belonged to the Bnei Menashe community.
