Indian Student Attacked in US For “Looking Weird” Succumbs to Injuries
International Desk, 9th November: Varun Raj Pucha, a 24-year-old Indian student, was fatally attacked with a knife at a fitness center located in the U.S. state of Indiana. On October 29, Varun, a student studying computer science at the university, was attacked by Jordan Andrade, who gave him a knife wound to the head. Authorities are currently looking into the reasons behind the incident.
The university released a statement expressing deep sorrow at Varun’s passing and sending its best wishes to his friends and family. The private university, which is situated in Valparaiso, Indiana, close to Chicago, sent prayers and support to Varun’s family at this terrible time.
After being captured, the attacker, Jordan Andrade, is being prosecuted for attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. According to recently filed accusations in the case, Andrade allegedly informed the police that Varun “was going to assassinate” him. Although Andrade claimed to the police that he had never spoken to Varun before the incident, the former claimed that “someone” had informed him that Varun was “threatening”.
Varun’s family received assurances from the institution that they would get continuous support, communication, and aid throughout this difficult time. They asked that everyone remember Varun’s family in their prayers and thoughts. On November 16, there will be a service on campus to remember and honor Varun. This will provide the university community a chance to honor his life and express their respect.
After visiting the US in August 2022 to pursue an MS in Computer Science, Varun was scheduled to return to his hometown of Khammam, Telangana, the following year. After the tragedy, Varun’s condition did not get better despite receiving medical attention. Sadly, he passed suddenly in a Fort Wayne hospital while still unconscious. One of Varun’s few relatives living in the US, Anile Balleboyne, disclosed that his family and other relatives are in India. She spoke of his desire for a top-notch education and his dedication to providing both material and emotional support for his family.
