India’s Harnaaz Sandhu crowned as Miss Universe 2021
Guwahati: India’s Harnaaz Sandhu crowned as Miss Universe on Sunday. The 21-year-old Harnaaz won the title 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.
Panjab-based Harnaaz Sandhu represented India at the 70th Miss Universe 2021 held in Eilat, Israel, and won the title for the country.
The first and second runners-up were Paraguay and South Africa respectively.
The three top contestants for the title were asked to answer the same question at the event. This is what they were asked, “What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today?”
Answering the question Harnaaz said, “Well, I think the biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful, stop comparing yourselves with others, and let’s talk about more important things that’s happening worldwide. I think this is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own [life]. I believe in myself and that’s why I’m standing here today. Thank you.”
It may be mentioned that Harnaaz was crowned in October 2021 and currently she is pursuing her Master’s degree in Public administration.
Harnaaz Sandhu began competing in beauty pageants when she was barely 17 years old. She previously won Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, and Femina Miss India 2019. She also placed in the Top 12 at Femina Miss India 2019.
