India’s Wealthiest Woman Savitri Jindal Resigns from Congress Party
National Desk, 28th March: Savitri Jindal, India’s wealthiest woman according to Forbes India’s “Top 10 Richest Women in India in 2024” list, has resigned from the Congress party on March 28. Her departure comes amid speculation that she will join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), following in the footsteps of her son, former Congress MP Naveen Jindal, who recently joined the saffron party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Savitri Jindal, who serves as a minister in the Congress government in Haryana and is a member of the legislative assembly, is the chairperson emeritus of the OP Jindal Group, with a staggering net worth of 29.1 billion dollars. Born in the Tinsukia district of Assam, she married Om Prakash Jindal, the founder of the Jindal Group, in the 1970s.
Naveen Jindal, who represented the Kurukshetra constituency in the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2014 as a Congress MP, is set to contest the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from the same seat, but this time on a BJP ticket. The BJP had previously swept all ten seats of Haryana in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, indicating a significant political shift in the state.
