IndiGo Aircraft Suffers Tail Strike While Landing at Delhi Airport

National Desk, 13 June: An IndiGo aircraft has been grounded following a tail strike during landing at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The incident occurred on Sunday while the flight from Kolkata to Delhi was in progress. There were no alleged injuries in the incident.

The IndiGo A321-252NX (Neo) aircraft VT-IMG which was flying on sector 6E-6183 between Kolkata and Delhi was engaged in a tail strike upon landing in Delhi, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Up to the landing in Delhi, the flight was unremarkable. The crew started a go-around when they thought they drifted for a longer period of time than usual during the approach on runway 27. According to the DGCA, the aircraft’s tail likely struck the runway during the go-around maneuver and received damage.

The operational crew has been removed from the roster while the investigation is ongoing, it added. An investigation has been ordered into the situation, according to a senior DGCA official and the aircraft has been grounded.

When an aircraft’s tail or empennage strikes the ground or any other stationary object during takeoff or landing, this is referred to as a tail strike.
