IndiGo Flight Lands Safely In Kolkata Airport After Smoke Warning in Aircraft

Guwahati: An Indigo flight headed for Kolkata made a safe landing after spotting smoke in the cargo hold on Sunday.

The pilot of the IndiGo 6E-2513 flight from Delhi to Kolkata asked Kolkata Air Traffic Control (ATC) for a priority landing after spotting smoke in the cargo hold.

Kolkata ATC contacted the airport fire department for a safe landing of the aircraft.

According to a statement from IndiGo, the pilot adhered to all required standard operating procedures (SOPs) prior to landing.

The statement from the airline read, “The pilots followed their SOPs and prioritised the landing at Kolkata. Post-arrival necessary inspections were carried out. The warning was confirmed as spurious. Necessary rectifications on the detection system are in progress.”

According to reports, the occurrence on the flight to Kolkata prompted the pilots to cry “May Day” while in the air.

A DGCA official was quoted by ANI as saying, “The pilots declared ‘May Day’ after a smoke warning in the cargo hold area was subsequently cancelled and the jet landed safely at the airport and it was a bogus alarm.”

Meanwhile, all passengers landed safely and no injuries were reported in the incident.
