IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Karachi
Guwahati: An IndiGo flight from New Delhi to Doha was diverted to Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Monday after a passenger reportedly died in midair.
“Unfortunately, on arrival, the passenger was declared dead by the airport medical team,” a statement by IndiGo said today.
As the passenger became ill, the plane made the decision to make an emergency landing. But he passed away before the plane could touch down.
The dead has been named as 60-year-old Nigerian native Abdullah.
The passengers’ death certificates were reportedly issued by the medical staff of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad.
“We are deeply saddened by the news and our prayers and wishes are with his family and loved ones. We’re currently making arrangements for transferring the other passengers of the flight, in coordination with the relevant authorities,” IndiGo said in a statement.
According to a representative for the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the Karachi airport’s air traffic controller authorised the Indian airlines pilot to make an emergency landing owing to a medical emergency.
