IndiGo Leh-Bound Flight Returns to Delhi Mid-Air, No Injuries Reported
New Delhi: An IndiGo flight bound for Leh returned to Delhi mid-air under unclear circumstances early Thursday morning, raising concern among passengers and drawing attention to ongoing issues surrounding aviation safety in India.
Flight 6E 2006, operated by an Airbus A320-251N, departed from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport around 6:30 AM with approximately 180 passengers and crew members on board. However, the aircraft turned back mid-journey and landed safely at IGI Airport.
In a brief preliminary statement, IndiGo confirmed that no emergency was officially declared, but did not provide details on the cause of the unscheduled return. Unconfirmed reports have speculated a possible technical issue, though this has not been verified by the airline.
All passengers are safe, and no injuries were reported.
The incident adds to a series of recent mid-air diversions and has prompted renewed discussion about aircraft maintenance standards and operational safety in Indian aviation. A more detailed statement from IndiGo is awaited to clarify the exact reason behind the diversion.
