Indo-Bangla Armies Exchange Sweets at Akhura Border, Commemorating Vijay Diwas
Assam: In a gesture of solidarity and friendship, Indian and Bangladeshi Army officers exchanged sweets at the Akhura border outpost on the 53rd anniversary of Vijay Diwas. The event commemorated the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistani occupation in 1971.
The exchange of sweets symbolized the strong bond between the two nations and honored the sacrifices of those who fought for Bangladesh’s independence. The day was marked by celebrations honoring the bravery and resilience of the Bangladeshi people and the Indian Armed Forces who fought side-by-side.
The 1971 Liberation War was a pivotal moment in history, leading to the birth of Bangladesh as an independent nation. The war culminated in the surrender of over 93,000 Pakistani forces on December 16, 1971.
A spokesperson for the Indian Army’s Guwahati-based PRO office stated, “As we commemorate this historic milestone, we pay tribute to the brave souls who laid down their lives for the nation. The exchange of sweets between Indian and Bangladeshi Army officers at the Akhura border is a testament to our enduring friendship and cooperation. This tradition will continue to strengthen the bilateral ties between our two nations.”
