Indore Clinches Title of India’s Cleanest City for Seventh Consecutive Year
National Desk, 11th January: Indore, Madhya Pradesh, secures the prestigious title of India’s cleanest city for the seventh consecutive year during the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023. The achievement reflects the city’s unwavering commitment to cleanliness, marked by effective waste management practices and well-developed infrastructure.
Indore’s systematic approach since 2015 includes initiatives like meticulous waste segregation, door-to-door collection, and the employment of dedicated sanitation workers known as ‘safai mitras.’ Central dry waste processing facilities at Deveguradiya and Asia’s largest bio-CNG plant contribute to the city’s success in waste management. The bio-CNG plant not only fuels city buses but also generates organic manure, boosting revenue through carbon credits and private partnerships.
Indore’s consistent top ranking in the Swachh Survekshan survey, conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, underscores its success in criteria such as air and water quality, public spaces, and waste management systems. The city’s achievements serve as an inspiring model for other urban centers striving for sustainability and cleanliness. The award ceremony saw the presence of dignitaries like President Droupadi Murmu and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
