Inmate of de-addiction centre allegedly beaten to death in Gujarat

Guwahati: An unfortunate occurrence resulted in the death of a Gujarati man who was receiving treatment for drug and alcohol addiction after being viciously beaten by a group of seven individuals.

The de-addiction centre manager and seven other people reportedly carried out the gruesome murder after brutally torturing the prisoner for about 90 minutes.

Hardik Suthar, the deceased guy, was slain and cremated, and his family was informed that he passed away naturally as a result of a sharp and rapid drop in blood pressure.

However, the truth was uncovered after police scanned the CCTV cameras of the centre.

When local police opened an investigation two days ago after learning that an inmate called Hardik Suthar had been killed and his death had been misdiagnosed as natural, they discovered the gruesome crime.

About six months ago, Suthar was accepted into the Jyona de-addiction facility administered by a charity trust with roots in Surat.

“On February 17, Suthar went to the bathroom and tried to slit his wrist. The facility’s manager Sandeep Patel and seven to eight other people then tied his hands and legs and brutally thrashed him with a thick plastic pipe for nearly two hours,” said Mehul Patel, inspector, B-division police station, who is investigating the case.

“Of these, two of them even burnt a portion of the pipe with a lighter and poured the hot liquid on Suthar’s private parts and burnt his pubic hair,” he added.

Patel claimed that Sandeep merely turned to such heinous act to solidify his control over the establishment. They also told other patients that if they misbehaved or used any inappropriate behaviour, they would suffer the same fate as Suthar. Suthar was killed in the bathroom.

Once Suthar passed away, Sandeep and other people drove him to a private hospital, but the doctor wouldn’t let them check him in. The next morning, they called Suthar’s uncle and told him that his uncle had passed away from low blood pressure. They had kept the body in Sandeep’s car the entire previous night.

Besides Sandeep, police arrested Jitu Patel, Jainish, Gaurav Macchimar, Mahesh Rathore, Jayesh Chaudhary and Nitin Chaudhary.
