Innao FC and Diyun Bazaar Girls FC Claim Victory at Arunachal Pradesh Football Tournament
Diyun — In a thrilling conclusion to the 3rd edition of the Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Students’ Union (APCSU) Winter Football Tournament, Innao FC and Diyun Bazaar Girls FC emerged as champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
The finals, held to celebrate the 33rd Foundation Day of the APCSU, showcased the talents of 23 teams from the Changlang, Namsai, and Lohit districts in a competitive knockout format.
In the men’s final, Innao FC lifted the championship trophy, while DBFC FC secured the runner-up position. On the women’s side, Diyun Bazaar Girls FC triumphed over Hajong Girls FC, who finished as runners-up. The tournament, which commenced on October 20, attracted significant local participation, with approximately 6,000 to 7,000 spectators witnessing the final match and prize distribution ceremony.
The motto of this year’s tournament, “Say No to Drugs,” underscored a crucial message aimed at combating drug abuse within the community. This initiative received support from various organizations, including Oil India, Glorious Life Rehabilitation and Foundation, the local administration, 11 Assam Rifles, the Mahabodhi Society, and Sadanarama Foundation.
Drishya Muni Chakma, President of APCSU, emphasized the organization’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness about drug abuse. “Humanity demands certain discipline, and that discipline cannot be achieved when our children and youth indulge in drugs. We wish to make our area a ‘Drug-Free Zone,’” he stated, highlighting the need for collective action against addiction.
The final match and the prize distribution ceremony were attended by notable figures, including Somlung Mossang, ex-MLA of the Diyun-Bordumsa constituency, who served as the chief guest. He was joined by BJP Namsai District President Sujana Namchoom and HK Acharya from the 11 Assam Rifles as guests of honor. Mossang praised the APCSU for their proactive approach to youth welfare and the promotion of indigenous sports and games, advocating for peaceful coexistence within diverse communities.
Abhish Chakma, Chairman of the organizing committee, voiced concern over the growing drug addiction crisis affecting all segments of society. “If timely interventions are not made, it may spread to different age groups, affecting large populations with drug addiction,” he warned, reinforcing the tournament’s role in addressing this critical social issue.
The tournament not only celebrated athletic achievement but also served as a platform for community engagement, aiming to inspire a collective movement towards a drug-free society in Arunachal Pradesh.
