Interim Bail Granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by Supreme Court

National Desk, 10th May: In a significant development, the Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 in connection with a money laundering case linked to the liquor policy scam. The decision, announced by the bench on Friday, offers respite to Kejriwal amidst the legal proceedings that have been unfolding.

Opposing Kejriwal’s bail plea, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) argued against the granting of bail solely for election campaign activities, asserting that such activities do not constitute a fundamental, constitutional, or legal right. The ED stressed that previous instances did not see political leaders being granted interim bail for campaign purposes, particularly when they were not contesting in the elections.

Kejriwal’s arrest by the financial probe agency on March 21 was part of the ongoing investigations into the money laundering case associated with the now-defunct Delhi excise policy. Recently, a Delhi court had extended his judicial custody until May 20, heightening the significance of the Supreme Court’s decision to grant interim bail in the midst of this legal saga.
