Interim Bail of USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque Extended Till April 25 Amid Ongoing Legal Proceedings
Guwahati: The interim bail of University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque has been extended until April 25, as the hearing scheduled on Wednesday remained inconclusive due to the unavailability of the case diary.
The development comes in connection with a case registered under Dhekiajuli Police Station, marking yet another chapter in the Chancellor’s ongoing legal battles.
Hoque, who was re-arrested in March this year, had been taken into custody by Sonitpur Police from Sribhumi District Jail following a production warrant issued by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, Sribhumi. The arrest pertains to Dhekiajuli Police Station case number 55/2025, filed by one Mukshed Alom. The case includes serious charges under IPC Sections 318(4), 316(5), and 336(3), alongside Section 11(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
He is scheduled to be produced before the Tezpur court on March 13, 2025, as the legal process unfolds. Hoque’s arrest follows multiple previous legal confrontations. While the Gauhati High Court had granted stay orders in three other cases registered at Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Gossaigaon police stations, this Dhekiajuli case has proceeded independently, leading to his continued detention.
Earlier, Hoque and five of his associates were lodged in judicial custody at Sribhumi District Jail. However, with investigations intensifying, only he has been transferred to Dhekiajuli, underscoring the gravity of the ongoing probe.
