Guwahati: The Jorabat Police had busted an interstate gang of car thieves and arrested eight persons besides recovering two stolen vehicles on Thursday.
The arrested were identified as Narayan Das, Bikash Sarkar, Ripun Dutta (all from West Bengal), Mintu Chanda, Subham Dhar (both from Golaghat), Biki Dutta of Jorhat, Somvalang Shaktimi of West Khasi Hills and Tengstor Nangabit of East Khasi Hills.
As per the sources of MyNewsNE, they were arrested separately – two from Karbi Anglong, two from Golaghat, two from Guwahati and two others from Byrnihat in Meghalaya.
According to police officials, the arrests came in the wake of over a month of investigation.
The police officials recovered a Bolero pick-up vehicle and an EcoSport car from their possession.
It needs to be noted that the gang used to steal cars by hiring them and then doping the drivers while on the road.
