Rabong, Sikkim – The much-anticipated Intra-Sikkim Volleyball Tournament 2025 officially began at Rabong New Market on April 5, setting the stage for a week of competitive sports and community celebration. Organized as a central part of the Discover Rabong Cho-Dzo Fest 2025, the tournament will run from April 11 to April 16, drawing teams and spectators from across the state.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by area MLA Riksal Dorjee Bhutia, who lauded the efforts behind the sporting event and emphasized the importance of sports in promoting unity, discipline, and physical well-being. In his address, he encouraged the youth of Sikkim to actively participate in sports and wished all competing teams success in the tournament.
The opening ceremony was graced by several prominent figures including Teny Doma Bhutia, Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission; Basant Yonzon, former Namchi District Youth Convenor of the SKM Party; Wangyal Sherpa, SDM of Ravangla; Gopal Gurung, CLC President of 09-Barfung Constituency; Zilla Panchayat Member Anjana Sharma; along with several Panchayat members and local residents who turned up in large numbers to support the event.
The tournament kicked off with an electrifying match between Team Tanak and Team Yangang, captivating the crowd with a nail-biting 3-2 finish. The teams battled through alternating set wins, but Team Yangang edged out a victory through cohesive teamwork and a solid defensive strategy.
The second match saw a dominant performance by Team Namchi against Team Hathi Dunga. Displaying remarkable coordination and precision, Team Namchi swept the match in straight sets with a 3-0 victory, impressing the audience with their aggressive smashes and tactical gameplay.
The Discover Rabong Cho-Dzo Fest, renowned for showcasing the rich culture, scenic beauty, and athletic talent of the region, is further enhanced this year by the inclusion of the first-ever Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Open Volleyball Tournament. This new addition has already begun generating excitement, with expectations of even greater participation and viewership in the coming days.
