FIR against those propagating Fake News using Assam CM’s name

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked to file an FIR for propagating fake news using his name.

Taking the Twitter Sarma said, “A FAKE tweet bearing my name is circulating saying that since cases of #COVID19 have gone up schools & colleges are being closed down from Nov 20. This is WRONG & should not be heeded to.”

He added, “Stay off misinformation and fake news! I am advising @assampolice to take note and act.”

Meanwhile replying to CM’s tweet, Assam Police said that a case is being taken up at Crime Branch, Guwahati.

It may be mentioned that a screenshot was widely shared on Whatsapp and other social media which reads, “AS per covid-19 cases are increasing in Assam very fast. On 31st October it cross 300+ positive cases. So, the Education department and the government decided to closed schools and the colleges from 20th November.”

However, this is not the first time earlier also fake news were spread in the name of Sarma about the non-opening of institutes in the state.
