ISRO Chairman Highlights Critical Role of Satellites in National Security
Imphal: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman V Narayanan has underscored the vital role of satellites in ensuring national security.
Speaking at the 5th convocation ceremony of the Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Imphal, Narayanan revealed that at least 10 satellites are continuously working round-the-clock for strategic purposes to safeguard citizens.
Narayanan emphasized the importance of satellites in monitoring India’s 7,000 km coastline and the northern borders. He noted that without satellite and drone technology, ensuring the country’s safety would be impossible.
The ISRO chief’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Recently, the region along the northern and western International Borders (IB) witnessed chaos and skirmishes. However, the situation has largely remained peaceful, with no reported incidents of ceasefire violations on the night of May 11 and May 12.
The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). The operation was a retaliatory response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. According to officials, the operation resulted in significant damage to Pakistan’s military capabilities, including the destruction of 11 air bases.
Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai, Director General Military Operations, revealed that a communication with the Pakistan DGMO resulted in a cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions. However, Pakistan violated this understanding a few hours later, prompting a robust response from the Indian Armed Forces.
Ghai stated that the Indian military responded robustly to Pakistan’s violations, which included cross-border and across the Line of Control (LoC) firing, followed by drone intrusions. The Indian military’s swift response ensured that the attacks were largely neutralized, maintaining peace along the region.
