ISRO Scientist and Voice of Chandrayaan 3 Countdown, N Valarmathi, Passes Away
National Desk, 4th September: N Valarmathi, the respected scientist of the Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) who lent her voice to Chandrayaan 3 and other rocket launch countdowns, has passed away at the age of 64. Her untimely demise occurred on Saturday, nearly two weeks after her last assignment.
Sources report that N Valarmathi suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away in Chennai in the evening.
Born on July 31, 1959, in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur, she received her education at Nirmala Girls Higher Secondary School and graduated in engineering from the Government College of Technology in Coimbatore.
Since joining ISRO in 1984, Valarmathi has been essential to many missions. Notably, she oversaw the development of RISAT-1, India’s first homegrown Radar Imaging Satellite (RIS), a landmark achievement for the country.
She also achieved the distinction of being the first person to receive the Abdul Kalam Award in 2015. This prestigious award was instituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu in honor of the former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam, in recognition of Valarmathi’s exceptional contributions to the field of science and technology. Her legacy in the realm of space research and her iconic voice in space missions will be remembered with great respect.
