IT Department Assures SC of No Coercive Measures Against Congress Party During Lok Sabha Elections
National Desk. 1st April: In a significant development, the Income Tax department has provided a major relief for the Congress party by assuring the Supreme Court that it will refrain from taking any forceful measures to recover Rs 1700 crores from the party amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Representing the Income Tax department, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted to the Supreme Court that no coercive steps would be taken against the Congress party, particularly in light of the crucial Lok Sabha elections.
The department has further requested the court to schedule the hearing of the matter for June, indicating its intention to avoid causing any disruptions for any party during the election period.
The Supreme Court has taken note of the submissions made by the Solicitor General, underscoring the significance of maintaining a fair and conducive electoral environment during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
