Itanagar Police Net Habitual Drug Peddler, Seize Significant Contraband in Targeted Raid
Itanagar: In a determined effort to combat the escalating drug problem, the Itanagar Police successfully apprehended a known drug peddler on Saturday evening following a well-executed operation in the heart of the capital city.
Acting on credible intelligence concerning illicit drug trade within the F and G Sector, a dedicated team from the Itanagar Police Station swiftly mobilized near the Rural Bank, situated in close proximity to Aditya Drug House Pharmacy, to conduct a targeted intervention.
The operation, strategically spearheaded by SDPO Shri Kengo Dirchi and Inspector K. Yangfo, unfolded under the direct oversight of the Superintendent of Police, Itanagar Capital Complex, highlighting the high priority placed on this enforcement action.
During the meticulously planned raid, law enforcement officials intercepted two individuals, leading to a thorough personal search of one of the suspects which yielded a substantial haul of illegal substances, including four vials containing a total of 6.48 grams of suspected heroin in brown powder form, along with 27 tablets of Nitcor-10 (Nitrazepam 10 mg), 10 tablets of Nitrosun-10 (Nitrazepam 10 mg), and four syringes.
The cumulative weight of the seized narcotic and psychotropic substances amounted to 10.18 grams, representing a significant blow to the local drug trafficking network.
The individual arrested at the scene has been identified as Semo Tok, a 24-year-old resident of Vivek Vihar, Itanagar, originally hailing from Sede village under the jurisdiction of Pakke Kessang Police Station. He was promptly taken into police custody following the recovery of the contraband.
Law enforcement authorities have initiated a formal investigation, registering a case against the accused under multiple stringent sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, specifically Sections 21(b), 27, 27A, and 29, which address various aspects of drug possession, consumption, financing, and conspiracy.
The ongoing investigation aims to delve deeper into the supply chain of these narcotics, with a focus on identifying and dismantling any potential connections to larger drug trafficking organizations operating within the region.
This successful operation is a key component of “Operation Dawn 2.0,” a renewed and intensified initiative by the Itanagar Police to dismantle drug supply networks, apprehend repeat offenders, and effectively curb the growing menace of narcotics within the capital region, reaffirming the police department’s unwavering commitment to creating a safer and drug-free Itanagar for its residents.
