ITBP Jawan Held for Raping Minor in Sikkim

Guwahati: A jawan with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been arrested on suspicion of repeatedly raping a 13-year-old girl in his official residence in Sikkim.

The incident took place at Rangpo town in Pakyong district.

Police reports said that the girl also became pregnant after the incident.

The girl’s mother complained that a teenage local boy had also molested her for several months. The boy has also been detained, according to the police.

The girl’s mother said that since April, a paramilitary member—an assistant sub-inspector—has repeatedly sexually assaulted her in his housing at Raj Bhavan’s Winter Camp in Rangpo.

The jawan has been charged under sections 4 (penalty for penetrating sexual assault) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (PoCSO) Act. He is a native of Dharchula in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault).

The girl was seen by a doctor at Rangpo’s primary care facility in the interim.

Police stated that they are looking into the incident and attempting to determine whether the local boy and the ITBP jawan had any sort of relationship.
