ITLF Announces Non-Violent Protests for Union Territory Demand in Manipur
Northeast Desk, 21st June: The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has announced plans to hold non-violent demonstrations on June 24 to advocate for the establishment of a Union territory for the Kuki-Zo people of Manipur.
In an official statement, the ITLF expressed its intent to protest against the upcoming autonomous district council (ADC) elections, claiming that these elections have caused divisions among the Kuki-Zo community.
“We request everyone to join in great numbers in order to demonstrate our political demands,” the ITLF urged, encouraging widespread participation in the protests.
The rallies will take place simultaneously in various hill regions, including Pherzawl, Kanggui, and Tengnoupal, among others. A complete shutdown will be observed on the day of the demonstrations to emphasize the community’s stance.
“We have demanded separation from Manipur, and so far, there has been no settlement to our political demands,” the ITLF stated, reiterating their call for community members to boycott the ADC polls.
