IYC President Srinivas BV Appears Before Assam Police Today

National desk, 22 May: Indian Youth Congress President Srinivas BV appeared before the Assam Police on Monday in connection with the harassment case filed by expelled Assam Youth Congress leader Ankita Dutta against him. A case no. 692/2023 was registered against Srinivas at Dispur police station soon after Ankita Dutta filed a case against Srinivas on charges of mental harassment.

On the basis of this case, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of East Guwahati, Maitreyi Deka directed him to appear in Guwahati before May 2, 2023 for a case registered against the Youth Congress President under sections U/S 294/341/352/354/354(A)/506 of the IPC.

Earlier, Youth Congress president Srinivas had approached the Gauhati High Court against the case but was finally directed to arrive in Guwahati on May 22.

Srinivas is learnt to have appeared before the police at Panbazar police station in Guwahati. A tight security cordon has already been put in place in the entire area including the Panbazar police station premises.

It is to be noted that a day before Srinivas’s arrival, Section 144 has been imposed across Guwahati. According to this order, not more than five people is allowed to gather in one place. No one will be able to stage an anti-government protest and no party organization will be able to take out a rally.

It was suspected that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee(APCC) may hold a rally or an anti-government protest on Srinivas’s arrival in Guwahati. If that happens then the streets of Guwahati may get agitated at any moment. In view of this, Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in Guwahati through a statement signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Imdad Ali of the city police on Saturday with the aim of ensuring peaceful movement of the public and the normal functioning of the office under the Commissioner of Police.
