Jairam Ramesh Alleges Vehicle Attack in District where Himanta Biswa Sarma’s brother is SP

Guwahati, 22nd January: In a recent incident during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, a political campaign led by the Congress party, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed that his vehicle was attacked on January 21 in Jamugurihat, Sonitpur district, Assam. Ramesh attributed the alleged assault to an “unruly crowd.”

A noteworthy aspect of the incident is that the Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Sonitpur district, where the attack took place, is Susanta Biswa Sarma, the younger brother of Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma. Expressing concern, Ramesh questioned the law and order situation in the district, emphasizing the need for peaceful and democratic expression of views.

In response to the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma swiftly directed the state police to investigate the matter.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma instructed Assam Police DGP GP Singh to register a case and thoroughly examine the allegations made by Jairam Ramesh. “Pl register a case and enquire into the allegations @gpsinghips @DGPAssamPolice,” the CM stated in his X post, sharing Ramesh’s account of the alleged attack.
