Jairam Ramesh Criticizes PM Modi’s Absence in Manipur During ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’
Northeast Desk, 15th December: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, participating in Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Manipur, questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence in the state, which has been grappling with violence since May 3, 2023. Ramesh highlighted the public’s concern and urged Rahul Gandhi to raise the issue in Parliament, calling for Modi to visit Manipur and address the ongoing situation.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi initiated the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ from Thoubal, Manipur, embarking on a significant journey covering diverse landscapes across India. The yatra, translating to “Unite India Justice March,” is a political movement addressing social, economic, and political injustices. With the Lok Sabha elections on the horizon, it serves as a platform for the Congress to challenge the BJP’s policies, particularly criticizing the alleged intertwining of religion and politics.
During the yatra’s launch in Thoubal, Rahul Gandhi expressed concerns about the impact of BJP’s ideology on Manipur, citing the state’s suffering from the politics of hatred. Accompanied by Mallikarjun Kharge, President of the Indian National Congress, Gandhi pledged to restore peace and harmony. He criticized PM Modi for not visiting the troubled state and accused the BJP of exploiting religious sentiments for electoral gains.
Covering approximately 6,713 kilometers over two months, the yatra is planned to conclude in Mumbai on March 20-21. Rahul Gandhi aims to engage with constituents in 100 Lok Sabha constituencies across 15 states. Equipped with a custom-made Volvo bus, the yatra signifies the Congress party’s strategic move to connect with the masses and position itself as an alternative to the BJP, emphasizing secularism, liberty, equality, and social justice.
Rahul Gandhi’s journey includes stops like a tea stall in Lamjing Bazar, where he emphasizes listening to the people’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ (heartfelt issues). The overarching message is to create a vision for India rooted in harmony, equity, and brotherhood, distancing from violence, hatred, and monopolistic practices. The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra aligns with Congress’s goal to unite the nation under a banner of justice and inclusivity as the general elections approach.
