Jamia Student Shot at Inside Delhi Hospital After a Clash at University

Guwahati: A student from Jamia Millia Islamia University was shot by another student at the Holy Family Hospital in Delhi late on Thursday night. According to the police, a fight that started earlier on the university campus spilled over into the shooting.

Nauman Ali, who was shot, only had a minor scalp wound. According to NDTV, he had travelled to the medical facility to see his buddy Noman Chaudhary, who was receiving treatment for a head injury sustained during a brawl between two groups of students at the Jamia library earlier in the evening.

A student from a competing gang named Zalal reportedly arrived to the hospital with his companions and opened fire on Nauman Ali outside the emergency room, according to authorities.

Last night, a doctor told NDTV over the phone that there had been considerable fear following the incident. The physician assured her that “all is in control.”

“There was a clash between two groups in the locality, and some injured persons were brought to the hospital Emergency. One shot was fired in the Emergency between the clashing groups. No bystanders, other patients or hospital staff was injured. The situation was immediately brought under control,” the hospital said in a statement.

Nauman Ali has been transferred to the AIIMS Trauma Center since being cleared to speak. According to police, a team is examining the crime scene.
