National Desk, 6 May: Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri has been witnessing an encounter between security forces and militants for some days. A militant was killed in another encounter in Baramulla on Saturday amid the incident. Kashmir Zone Police said that the clashes began in Karhama Kunjar area of Baramulla. In the midst of this incident, anti-militancy operations are currently underway in the Kandi forest area of Rajouri. According to officials, at least 8 to 9 terrorists are surrounded in both the areas. Five soldiers were martyred in the terrorist attack in Rajouri.
According to reports, defence spokesman Lt Col Devendra Anand said that security forces clashed with militants at 1.15 pm on Saturday and there was firing from both sides. Five Indian soldiers were killed and an officer was injured in a terrorist attack in the Kandi forest area on Friday morning. “Three more soldiers who were injured earlier were unfortunately killed,” officials said. A total of five soldiers lost their lives in a joint operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri.
Four of the soldiers killed on Friday were commandos of 9 Para (Special Forces) and the fifth soldier was the Rashtriya Rifles Battalion. The slain soldiers were identified as Nilm Singh of Havildar of Akhnoor, Naik Arvind Kumar of Palampur, Lance Naik Rusin Singh Rawat of Geirsen in Uttarakhand, Siddhant Chhetri of Paratroopa in Darjeeling and Pramod Negi of Paratroopa in Sirmur, Himachal Pradesh.
It may be recalled that the slain soldiers were part of an army team trying to nab the terrorists responsible for the April 20 attack.
