Japanese Encephalitis claims 1 more live in Assam, death toll reaches 36

Guwahati: Japanese Encephalitis has claimed one more live in Assam in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 36.

The deceased has been identified as one Allauddin Ahmed, a resident of Dabaka under Hojai district.

According to reports, Ahmed died while undergoing treatment at Assam’s Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

According to the National Health Mission (NHM), a total of 24 new cases of JE were found yesterday, along with three deaths.

Currently, the total number of JE infections in the state stood at 226.

Japanese encephalitis virus JEV is the most important cause of viral encephalitis in Asia. It is a mosquito-borne flavivirus, and belongs to the same genus as dengue, yellow fever and West Nile viruses.
