Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat Celebrates World Poetry Day with Multilingual Poetry Session

The Department of Hindi and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) East Siang Branch and Bodum Collective, hosted a vibrant poetry reading session to mark World Poetry Day. The event showcased a rich tapestry of linguistic and cultural diversity, bringing together students, academicians, and local literary figures.

Over 30 students from various departments participated in the session, presenting both original compositions and timeless classics in Hindi and English. The event also featured poetry readings by prominent academicians, including Dr. K.K. Mishra (Associate Professor, Geography Department), Dr. Abani Doley (Assistant Professor, English Department), and Dr. Terbi Loyi (Assistant Professor, Arunachal Pradesh University, Pasighat). Their contributions highlighted the power of poetry as a medium for intellectual and emotional expression.

Adding a cultural dimension to the session, esteemed Adi poet Kaling Borang, Advisor of the APLS East Siang Branch, and Shri Otul Jerang, Sectoral Secretary, delivered compelling poetry in the Adi language. In her welcome address, APLS East Siang Branch President Smt. Ponung Ering Angu underscored the significance of World Poetry Day in preserving and promoting diverse poetic traditions.

Addressing the audience, Vice Principal Dr. Leki Sitang described poetry as the “purest form of emotional expression” and encouraged students to explore Arunachali Hindi in their creative works. The Head of the Hindi Department, delivering the vote of thanks, emphasized that the “21st century is the era of prose poetry,” reflecting the evolving nature of contemporary literary forms.

A standout moment of the event was a captivating recital by young poet Miss Ayang Doley, a Class 2 student from SFS School, whose performance left a lasting impression on the audience. The session was coordinated by Organizing Secretary Dr. Ing Perme, Assistant Professor, and was sponsored by the IQAC of Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, as noted in an official release.
