Guwahati: In a tragic incident, an army jawan was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Guwahati of Assam.

The incident was reported from Narengi army camp in Guwahati on Saturday.

The jawan was on duty when the tusker attacked and murdered the jawan at around 7 o’clock in the evening.

Meanwhile, the identity of the deceased jawan has come to the fore.

He has been identified as 52-year-old Khamliang Khap, a resident of Dimapur in Nagaland.

Moreover, it has come to light that the jawan was on duty in DSC area 222 of the Satgaon camp at the time when the incident occurred.

The jawan was immediately rushed to the Basistha Base Hospital right away after the attack.

However, he was declared dead there.

It should be mentioned that there are wild elephants that roam free within the boundaries of the Narengi army camp, and there have been a number of conflicts in the past. However, no such conflicts had resulted in loss of lives before.

Conflicts between humans and wild elephants have increased in frequency in the state as their habitat is being lost.
