Jayanta Mallabaruah: Special Pilgrimage Ferry To Launch Soon

Guwahati: Assam Minister of Tourism Jayanta Mallabaruah on Thursday said that the important temples on either bank of the Brahmaputra will be covered by special pilgrimageboat services that will be inaugurated in Guwahati.

At the Assam Cabinet meeting conducted today at Janata Bhawan in Dispur, this was one of the significant choices made. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister, presided over the gathering.

After the meeting, Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah had a press conference to discuss the decisions made. According to him, the Center’s Sagar Mala Project will fund the unique ferry service.

“This is an important decision for the tourism sector in the state. Under the Sagar Mala Project, the ferry service will cover all pilgrimage sites on either banks of the Brahmaputra,” Jayanta Mallabaruah said.

He said, “The ferry service will ply from Kamakhya to Ashwaklanta temple. From there it will head to Umananda temple. The final stop on the pilgrimage will be Doul Govinda Mandir in North Guwahati.”

A separate board will be established for skill development, according to Mallabaruah, who also oversees the portfolio. Technical education in the state “will take on a new structure within two months,” he predicted.

The minister said, “The skill development board will also be set up within the next two months. We will require 5,000 technicians in the coming times as digital meters will be installed in 44 lakh houses.”

“The total expenditure in this regard will be Rs 4,662 crores. A 50 megawatt Solar Park will be set up at Borsola,” added Jayanta Mallabaruah.

The cabinet minister also stated that the Assam government’s Legal Metrology department will now be combined with the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs department.

He also revealed that the deadline for applications for the Basundhara Scheme has been extended to March 31 in another significant news.
