Guwahati: The Assam Police has deemed the ULFA-I threat to boycott Independence Day as immaterial as preparations are being made to commemorate the 75th Independence Day with the utmost zeal.

Notably, the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), under the leadership of Paresh Baruah has reverted to calling for a boycott on Independence Day.

The “Assam bandh” has been declared by the outlawed group and will last from midnight on August 14 to 6 pm on August 15.

However, Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta declared on Saturday that the ULFA-warning I’s was immaterial, adding that “this year, everyone will celebrate Independence Day with double zeal. Additionally, this year’s increased number of events and other activities in the city has led to an increase in search operations.

Mahanta further noted that the Assam Police is keeping a strict eye on oil sectors, bus stops, railway stations, and other areas in order to ensure safety, security, and to prevent any attempts by intruders coming from across the border.
