JE Claims Life Of Minor Girl In Assam’s Tinsukia, Toll at 48
Guwahati: Japanese Encephalitis claimed another life of 14year old girl on Monday while the death toll in the state due to the infection has risen to 48.
As per reports, the deceased girl was a resident of Laika Poma village in Tinsukia district of Assam.
Accordingly, three persons died of JE, each from Barpeta, Darrang, and Chirang districts.
The overall number of JE cases in the state has increased to 295 since this year’s July, when the mosquito-borne illness took a “severe turn.”
As soon as the issue was recognised, the district administrations around the state established rapid response teams to combat and stop the dangerous sickness from spreading.
In Assam, between May and October each year, during the monsoon flood season, mosquitoes carry the virus that causes Japanese encephalitis, which infects the brain. Malaria and viral infections are both common causes of death during this time.
